The physical appearance of the Pacman frogs is very similar to the animated character showcased in the video game. The name of the frog came from the popular video game Pacman Arcade. However, their camouflaging prowess does not save these frogs from their predators, like birds and snakes. Their unique body shape also helps the frogs to hide exceptionally well. They only keep their head exposed to catch their prey. Instead, they prefer to spend most of the time hidden in the damp leaf litter of a humid area. Unlike many frog species, the Pacman frogs are terrible swimmers. The Pacman frog is also one of the most popular pet amphibians for its usual body shape. Males will have a dark organ on the thumb (called a nuptial pad) that is used to grip the females when mating.Pacman frogs are one of the amphibians that are native to South America. Once they are old enough (generally 6+ months), the most accurate way to sex your frog is to look at the thumbs. Keep an eye on your temperatures and to make sure your frog is not overheated. However, encouraging them to move occasionally to spot-clean the substrate where they have been sitting is a good idea for the health of your frog.
